In support of the University’s mission, the College of Engineering offers four bachelor of science degree programs and three master's degree programs, supports education of university students in the area of technological literacy and the engineering design process, and provides non-credit continuing education courses in engineering and construction management through the resources of four departments: Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Construction Management.

The Department of Civil Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and the Master of Science in Civil Engineering. The Department of Construction Management offers the Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. The Department of Electrical Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

In addition to studying on campus in Tyler, students can complete a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering through study at the Houston Engineering Center. Students pursuing a degree through the Houston Engineering Center typically will complete the first two years of study at a community college and complete the last two years with UT Tyler.

Mission and Vision Statement

The mission of the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Tyler is to: 

  • Prepare broadly educated graduates who think critically and serve the global community as professionals through investigation, collaboration, and innovation;
  • Foster the intellectual and economic vitality of the region, the state, and the nation through teaching, research and outreach; and
  • Instill a sense of excellence, ethics, integrity, leadership, and service in our graduates.

 With this mission in mind, the vision of the faculty is that the College of Engineering will be:

  • A recognized leader in engineering and construction management education and selected research fields at the local, state, and national level;
  • A leader in the University in terms of student quality, performance, retention, and enrollment; 
  • A leader in the University in attracting and educating a diverse student body; and 
  • A leader in the University in externally funded research.

Strategic Goals

Supporting the mission and the vision of the college, the strategic goals of the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Tyler are: 

Goal 1—A Highly Qualified and Diverse Faculty: Hire and retain a qualified, diverse, and motivated faculty who support and enhance our aspirations for excellence and provide an enabling environment. 

Goal 2—Excellence and Innovation in Education: Maintain innovative and flexible curricula that are founded in the bodies of knowledge necessary for professional practice; emphasize design, teamwork, and ethics throughout; and are responsive to the needs of our stakeholders.

Goal 3—Excellence in Research and Scholarship: Develop and maintain nationally recognized research programs in all departments solving problems relevant at the local, state, and national level.

Goal 4—Contribute to Life-Long Learning: To meet the ever-changing technological and scientific needs of practicing engineers, and the community in general, we will provide opportunities for them to continue their professional development and will serve as a resource for technology transfer regarding relevant issues related to professional practice.
